Restoration of a Louis XIV period cartel clock in Boulle marquetry. This wall clock rests upon its matching wall bracket (cul-de-lampe), designed to be mounted to the wall.
It is executed in première partie Boulle marquetry, composed of brass inlay set against a ground of tortoiseshell. The gilt bronze dome is surmounted by a figure representing Chronos (or Saturn), the deity in Greek and Roman mythology symbolizing the passage of time.
The original movement bears the signature “De Lorme Paris” engraved on the back plate.
