LE NAUTILUS

This shell is made from carton-pierre, an ecological material made from waste paper and textiles.
This technique has been used since the 18th century to create decorative elements such as mouldings and sculptures from textile fibres, paper and/or cardboard mixed with mineral powders and glues. The architect Richard Mique used this quick and inexpensive technique for the decorations and mouldings of Queen Marie-Antoinette’s theatre in Versailles, completed in 1780.
